2. McDonald’s once created bubble gum-flavoured broccoli Not surprisingly the bizarre attempt to get kids to eat healthier did not go over well with the child testers.

McDonald’s CEO Don Thompson spoke at an event hosted by venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz on Thursday night, where a guest asked what the fast-food chain was doing to get kids to eat healthier.

Thompson pointed out that McDonald’s had redesigned their milk jugs and reduced their fry sizes.

But McDonald’s wackiest attempt at making their menu more nutritious was to design broccoli that tasted like bubble gum.

5. The shortest war in history lasted 38 min. in 1896, the sultan of British protected Zanzibar died and a new took over without British approval. The brits were not happy, especially when Sultan Khalid bin Barghash refused to step down. British warships spent less than 40 min. bombarding the palace before Khalid fled, marking the end of the (very quick) Anglo Zanzibar War.

The little known Anglo-Zanzibar War of 1896 is generally considered to be the shortest war in history, lasting for a grand total of 38 minutes.

The story begins with the signing of the Heligoland-Zanzibar treaty between Britain and Germany in 1890. This treaty effectively drew up spheres of influence between the imperial powers in East Africa; Zanzibar was ceded to British influence, whilst Germany was given control over mainland Tanzania.

With this newfound influence, Britain declared Zanzibar a protectorate of the British Empire and moved to install their own ‘puppet’ Sultan to look after the region. Hamad bin Thuwaini, who had been a supporter of the British in the area, was given the position in 1893.

So what about the lighter? They were invented in the 16th century out of nothing more than a converted flintlock pistol.

Now you can argue that a pistol is no lighter. This is true. But if you look up the definition of “Lighter” in the dictionary,

it states; “A mechanical device used in lighting fires, cigarettes, cigars, or pipes.” So by definition, the converted pistol was indeed the first lighter.

9.You can’t hum while holding your nose. — you just tested it, didn’t you? You might be able to get a note or two out, but good luck with a full song. Normally, when you hum. the air can escape through your nose to create the sound, and of course, it can’t do that when you’re holding your nostrils shut.

it is because when you hum, you are actually exhaling, so if both your mouth and your nose is closed, the air can’t escape.

So, although you can hum for a very brief few second or two, you will be forced to open your mouth and catch your breath.

10. Giraffe tongues can be 50.8 cms long- The tongues dark bluish-black colour probably helps prevent sunburn.

Even some humans are known to have black tongues since birth, and the colour is not caused by disease. Giraffes spend a lot of time using their tongues to get food.

The face of a giraffe’s tongue has such a dark colour to prevent the tongue from getting sunburned because they live in tropical and subtropical regions. Why do Giraffes’ have long tongues?

Just like humans, they are prone to sun damage and sunburns. This structure of the elongated vertebrae of the neck is crucial to provide extra stability. Giraffes are the tallest mammals on Earth and they live in savannas, Sahel and open woodland areas. The end of their tongue tends to be black and maybe more pink or purple near the top since that portion is not as exposed to the sun.

Giraffes eat lots of prickly and thorny plants, so if their tongues had as much blood in them as ours, they would bleed really badly. They use their tongue to reach into tall trees and plants to gather what they need to eat. Why do giraffes have black tongues? The long tongue helps the giraffe to reach for leaves that are hard to get to.
